| Article date: | 08/07/2009 |
| Press article: | Trade body the Catalogue Exchange is delighted to announce that following lengthy talks The Home Shopping Alliance has agreed to cancel its plans to expand and include charities. The decision comes after discussions between Catalogue Exchange chair Alison Lancaster, Abacus' UK Managing Director Ian Hitt and representatives of the Board of CatEx. Alison Lancaster said: “I am delighted that Abacus responded so swiftly to our members’ concerns. We have now established a firm set of principles that will govern future relations between our organisation and Abacus in the UK.” Catalogue Exchange President Nigel Swabey, who is CEO of multi-title catalogue group Scotts & Co, also participated in the talks. He was joined by deputy chair Dara O’Malley, Managing Director of House of Bath. Mr Swabey said: “The vast majority of members of the Abacus Home Shopping Alliance are also members of the Catalogue Exchange. Our members perceived that an expansion of the Alliance to include all charities could have represented a serious threat to their businesses and were not content for their data to be shared in this manner. Abacus has responded to these concerns in a highly responsible fashion." He continued: "We are satisfied with the outcome of our discussions and after such a positive outcome, will be extending further lines of communication with Abacus. We believe that the Abacus Home Shopping Alliance will benefit greatly from this process. The Catalogue Exchange intends to support a variety of new measures that will further improve the value of this leading data co-op to our members.” A full statement has been issued by the Catalogue Exchange and can be viewed in our Press Release section.
